Riding Horses at Granddaddy's

Bill took the girls to his Dad's house in Grainger County on Saturday.  They loved spending the day "on the farm" riding horses and going to the river!  They also brought back some tomatoes, okra, and a watermelon.

Conversation

We had a wonderful girls afternoon out going to a baby shower at our church.  The girls and I dressed up in our maxi dresses and headed off to Laurel.  We arrived in the parking lot at just the right time.  A friend had pulled in at the same time and had her son who is 3 years old, her baby girl who is almost 5 months old and food to carry in to the shower.  I got to carry the sweet baby girl!
The girls had quite a few friends at the shower and enjoyed their time eating and playing with their friends.  I enjoyed getting to talk to several friends as well.
On the way home from the shower, I told the girls I was proud of how well they behaved while we were at the shower.  Lauren proceeded to tell me that Allison had pushed her while they were playing, making her bump into her friend Melanie.
This was our conversation:
Me:  Allison if you can't use nice touches with your sister, you will not be allowed to touch her.
Allison:  Not ever touch her?
Me:  Only if you can use nice touches.
Allison:  Can I hug her?
Me:  Not if you choose to push, or pinch, or use your hands to hurt.
Allison:  Well if I can't touch her, I'll leave this family.  I'll go to Arkansas.
Lauren:  You can't drive, you're not old enough.  You can't walk, it's too far and you would get too tired.  You could run, that's in between walking and riding a bike.  But you'd still be too tired.
Allison:  I'll fly.
Lauren:  You don't have any money.
Allison:  I have money in my piggy bank.
Lauren:  You need dollars, you just have cents.
Allison:  I'll go live with Uncle Bill.  He doesn't have anybody to live with him.
Me:  You could just make sure you only use your hands for nice touching and you wouldn't have to leave the family.  I would really miss you if you left our family.
Allison:  (in her most saddest voice)  I won't leave Knoxville, I'll just live with Uncle Bill.

At that point I had to stop and get milk.  When I got back in the car, the conversation was over.  Be ware, Uncle Bill, you may have a room mate some day!

It says "Allison"

We were reading books this evening and one of the books I was reading to Allison said, "How many colors can you name?"  Lauren, Allison and I took turns naming all the colors we could think of.  When it was my turn I said "fuchsia" and Allison asked me what that was.  I told her that was what was on her new backpack.  Her immediate response was, "No, that's Allison."

Well, as you can see, Allison was correct, her backpack says "Allison" and not "fuchsia"!
I love that little girl.  I can't believe she starts kindergarten in less than a month.....FULL DAY!!!!
I am NOT happy about FULL DAY!!!!  And I can't believe my baby is starting school.

All Is Well

The girls are back home and sleeping peacefully in their own beds after spending a few days with Granny and Pawpaw!  They went up to attend VBS at Mom and Dad's church.  They had lots of fun, but didn't get a lot of sleep!  Here's hoping for a long night of rest at home!  I'm so glad to have you girls back!

Thanks Mom and Dad for taking such good care of my babies!  I know it will be quiet in your house!   Hoping you guys get a long night of peaceful rest, too!

Our trip to the Beach

This was our fourth year in a row to spend Memorial Day week at Hilton Head Island.  Seems like only yesterday that Allison turned two years old and we were going to the beach for the first time with the girls.  Now they are seasoned pros at vacationing at the beach.  The girls are much better car riders (now that they can plug in to a dvd player, or play Angry Birds on the Kindle Fire).  They really were absolute angels on the long drive over and back.  I managed to do a lot of the driving and not get a speeding ticket this year!  Hooray!!!
We were very concerned about the weather because Tropical Storm Beryl was on track to make land fall right along the coast of South Carolina while we were there!  The girls (and I) prayed fervently for sunshine and God answered those prayers.  We were able to get out to the beach and go to the pool every day we were there.  This year we got Allison a bike and she loved riding her own bike to the beach each day.  Lauren has had her own bike the past two years.  Because of our location we did not get to ride bikes to get ice cream like we have done in the past.
The girls loved the ocean.  Lauren, Bill and my brother stayed in the ocean a lot.  Brother taught Lauren to body surf and she had a blast doing that.  We enjoyed seeing dolphins a couple of days, finding star fish and sand dollars on the beach and building sand castles.
We all agree that one week is not long enough to spend at the beach.  Maybe one year, we'll be blessed to stay longer!  If not, we'll be thankful for what time we do get to enjoy at our beloved Hilton Head.
